What is Engineering Counselling?
Engineering counselling in Tamil Nadu is the official process by which seats in government, aided, and private engineering colleges are allotted to students based on their TNEA score. The process is managed by Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu (DoTE).
TNEA Rank (Based on 12th Marks — No Entrance Exam)
Unlike other states, TNEA rank is calculated purely from HSC (12th) marks — no separate entrance exam is required.
Choice Filling via TNEA Portal
HSC students register and fill their college and branch preferences through the official TNEA online portal.
Seat Allotment by DoTE
DoTE processes all choices and releases seat allotment orders based on TNEA rank, category, and seat availability.
Counselling Rounds (incl. Supplementary)
Multiple rounds of counselling are conducted, including supplementary rounds, to fill all available seats across Tamil Nadu.
